A process server delivers legal documents such as summons, complaint, subpoena, in order for the defendant (and other involved parties) to appear and argue against a proposed order. So-called "substituted service" can be accomplished when a process server leaves the documents with an adult that resides in the same home as the individual being served. In certain situations, an employee in a management role can also be served if the client desires. This all depends on if the "agent for acceptance of service" In other cases is the defendant is unknown or absent, the court may allow service by publication in a newspaper.
